Open any website builder, email tool or design app this year and you will meet a sparkle icon. "Write with AI." "Ask our assistant." "Generate in one click." For a small business owner who is already busy, the real question is simple: which of these will make me money or save me time, and which are just noise?
The conversation is also getting louder at home. Ghana's Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations talks about the National AI Strategy and the One Million Coders programme, and more young Ghanaians are learning to build with these tools. That is good news for local businesses, but it makes it more important to choose carefully.
The test we use: does it remove a boring job?
The best AI features take a repetitive task off your plate and leave the judgement to you. If a tool replaces your voice, makes promises on your behalf or handles money, be careful.
A simple rule: let AI draft and sort, let people decide and promise.
Four uses worth trying first
A website assistant for common questions
Opening hours, delivery areas, how to book, what a service includes. A chat assistant that answers these at 10 pm saves you the same five messages every day. Make sure it can hand over to a real person, and show your WhatsApp number as a fallback.
First drafts for posts and product descriptions
Ask AI for a draft, then rewrite it in your own words. Drafts are fast; your voice is what makes people trust you. Always check names, prices and claims before you publish.
Image clean-up and resizing
Cropping product photos, removing a messy background and creating the same image in five sizes for different platforms are perfect jobs for automation.
Sorting incoming enquiries
Tagging messages as "quote request", "support" or "partnership" helps you reply to the right ones first.
Three traps to avoid
- Letting AI quote prices. A wrong price on a chat is still a price a customer will screenshot.
- Publishing without reading. AI is confident even when it is wrong. A person must read every word that goes out under your name.
- Pasting private data into free tools. Customer details and contracts should not go into tools you do not control.
Start small and measure
Pick one use, run it for a month, and look at the result. Did you answer faster? Did you save hours? Did enquiries go up? If yes, add the next one. If not, switch it off without guilt.
Our own approach at Turex Tech is to build the foundation first: a fast, clear website with a simple dashboard you control, then add automation where it earns its place. If you would like help deciding what is worth switching on for your business, send us a message or look at our website packages.
